About Essential Oil and Synergy Blends Natural Scented Soy Candles & Aromatherapy |
Only pure essential oils are used in Luminessent Candles natural soy wax candles and aromatherapy products. It is not uncommon for candle manufactures to combine artificial fragrances with Essential Oils, or to dilute the Essential Oils with synthetic fragrance. Many synthetic fragrance chemicals can pose a wide range of immediate and long-term health hazards. Up to 95 percent of chemicals used in fragrances are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum, and contain many known carcinogens, including acetone, benzene, lead, mercury, phenol, styrene, and toluene. Luminessent Candles products are extensively tested to ensure optimum quantities of scent and color are used. The intensity of cold and hot scent throw is sometimes affected by the interaction with color additives, and may vary from batch to batch due to variances in Essential Oils.
Essential oils vary in color from clear to yellow to orange to brown. The tint of the Essential Oil will affect the color of the candle, even if no dye is added. For example, Orange scented candles have an orange tint, Cinnamon and Coffee scented candles have a brown tint. It is for this reason that some scented candles cannot be made in certain lighter shades. Please contact us with your enquiries.

How does Aromatherapy work? |
Aromatherapy can be a very powerful enhancement to your wellbeing. When an essential oil is inhaled, aromas are instantly transmitted through olfactory nerves to the limbic system (the part of the brain handles the basic instincts, the subconscious, and memories). This release of neurochemicals invokes a physiological change in mind, body, and spirit. The effect can directly influence our emotions without the interference of reason, since scent is the only sense that is not processed by the intellect.
Aromatherapy formulas may not be effective for everyone, since the effect is influenced by the inhaler's personal experiences. Learned odor-responses may interfere with or alter the bio-chemical effects of essential oils. The chemical composition of emotions can be powerful enough to enhance or inhibit a neurological absorption or release. The experiential influences are enhanced as you become more aware of the scents around you, and gain more experience with pure essential oils.
Synthetic reproductions of pure essential oils do not have the biochemical effectiveness of naturally occurring essential oils, and are therefore not effective in aromatherapy. The response to the chemical odor is learned, and does not invoke a neurochemical release.
Essential oil aromas are divided into notes:
Top Note: smells light, fresh, airy. Normally, it is the first scent you notice, but tends to quickly dissipate.
Middle Note: not extremely heavy, but more rooted than top notes. This scent forms the body of the fragrance.
Base Note: longer-lasting, richer, and heavier. This will be the scent that remains after the evaporation of the top and middle notes.

What are Essential Oils? |
Essential Oils are highly concentrated, volatile, aromatic essences of plants, which are extracted from a variety of aromatic plant material including grasses, leaves, flowers, needles & twigs, peel of fruit, wood and roots. The purest essential oils come from carefully cultivated and wild grown plants from climatic and geographic regions throughout the world. Methods by which essential oils are extracted include distillation, expression, solvent extraction, effleurage, the phytotonic process, and the super critical carbon dioxide extraction.

What are Synergy Blends? |
A "Synergy Blend" is an aromatherapy blend of essential oils in which the combined effect of the oils is greater than the effects of each individual essential oil. Luminessent Candles soy candles and aromatherapy products are now available in over 20 therapeutic blends. Each blend is designed to enhance moods or ease specific ailments.
Custom scent combinations can be formulated upon request. Please keep in mind that significant lead time and a deposit (based on the prices of the oils requested) are required for sample testing and confirmation that blending is correct before the order can be completed.

What is the difference between Essential Oils and Synthetic Fragrances? |
The sense of smell is one of the most powerful senses, and the influence of fragrance on human behavior and response is well known. Although many consumers associate scented candles with aromatherapy, most fragranced candles are not true "aromatherapy" candles.
Most scented candles create pleasing psychological effects from the ambient aroma of fragrances. Aromatherapy calls for creating physiological or therapeutic effects through the use of essential oils extracted from plants and absorbed in the body through massage, ingestion or olfaction. Most scented candles do not contain essential oils, or do not contain amounts large enough to produce true aromatherapy effects.
Instead, most scented candles create pleasing psychological effects from the ambient aroma of fragrances. This is sometimes known as "aroma-chology," rather than aromatherapy. In any case, the popularity of scented candles continues to grow.
