A "Carbon Footprint" is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide.

An easy way to help reduce your household Carbon Footprint is to replace your traditional paraffin candles with Luminessent Candles products made from renewable resources.

Luminessent Candles was inspired by the little feet in our home. We take great pride in our efforts to minimize our environmental impact, which include:
  • All Luminessent Candles products are produced with EcoSoya wax, which is derived from 100% renewable sources of plant matter, not petroleum. Petroleum is one of the biggest environmental contributors of carbon dioxide, and paraffin wax is a petroleum product. Using paraffin encourages the discovery, collection, refinement, distribution and consumption of crude oil.

  • Soy wax has a much lower melting point than paraffin wax, allowing us to use significantly less energy to melt the wax in preparation for pouring

  • Cleaning paraffin wax molds requires washing with solvents and/or detergents, or melting wax in the oven or with a heat gun. Our metal molds are cleaned through melting by using an electric hotplate on a very low setting, reducing pollution and energy and water requirements. Excess wax is collected and recycled by producing test candles

  • Paraffin wax needs to be heated to high temperatures to bind with synthetic fragrance oils and colourants. The working temperature of Soy wax needs to be kept low to prevent burning off Essential Oils in production processes, which further reduces our energy requirements. Synthetic fragrance oils or boosters are NOT used in any Luminessent Candles products

  • We use only low-energy CF lightbulbs in our manufacturing facilities

  • Whenever possible, supplies are obtained locally, reducing carbon emissions due to transportation

  • Recycled shipping materials are used whenever possible

Luminessent Candles also purchases voluntary Carbon Footprint Offsets to help support projects that will reduce carbon dioxide emissions and alleviate global warming. These funds support projects for energy efficiency & sustainable energy technology development.
