The candles are unique. I wanted to use them for a 90th birthday celebration. After the purchase, I learned that the candles represent up to 89. I wish that had been written in the description of the product. Therefore, they were not useful to me.

These were such a fun idea, I just had to order them. They arrived safely and quickly, but my only disappointment with them was how small the candles actually are. Each one is maybe just over 1" tall, and I was expecting something more like 2" or 3" tall. The candles therefore won't last as long, but I guess I'll just use them sparingly.

And yes, I realize birthday candles are by nature used "sparingly", but I'm talking about even more so. Regular birthday candles can still be used when they're half-gone, because they are just straight/vertical sticks of wax; these however would need to still be *recognizable* letters to have the same effect, and with how small/thin they are, you will likely get a few less uses out of them than standard birthday candles. But, if you don't mind the extra expense for a really unique twist on birthday candles, then these are definitely a great idea and sure to impress a few party guests (with questions about where they can get a set of their own).

It's rare that the birthday cake candles get rave reviews, but that's exactly what happened at my brother's 32nd birthday party. The Roman Candles are fun and different, and a very cool metallic silver color that goes really well with cakes that don't have cartoon characters on them. Bonus that you don't get with other sets of candles- the right numerals are left for my mom's 61st birthday this year as well. Think how many boxes of regular birthday candles a box of Roman Candles replaces!
