The birthday candles start off looking like closed flower buds. Once the candle is lit, the center flame lights the 14 smaller birthday candles which are attached to each flower pedal. Then the flower opens up and starts to slowly spin. When the flower candle is open it is approximately 7" diameter x 4 1/2" tall. Each of the candles has a wide plastic "foot" so it will easily sit on top of a cake.
