Things I neglected to mention in the video: The top is also the metal bit from a candle, just a bigger one. The wick is two rectangular bits of polycotton t-shirt. This is the realisation of a dream: Making Turkish coffee in an authentic copper pot, in my office. The ideal preparation time for Turkish coffee is around 10 minutes, to nice and gently bring it almost but not quite up to the boil. After several days of faffing around I realised it wasn't gonna happen with normal tealights. I succeeded in making fat paperclip-core t-shirt-wicks wrapped in foil (so the wick stays at a constant size and position) but the wax gets so hot it starts igniting in the tealight. The local off-licence was selling meths at 28 lira a litre (that's like £12), so my wife suggested I try it with lemon cologne first. (In Turkey you're supposed to pour lemon cologne on visitors' hands. Quite hygenic actually.) This is of course ethanol. The sand tealight idea doesn't burn long enough (at least not with salt instead of sand and ethanol instead of meths), so I came up with this solution.
